I had a lot of fun working on this documentary. I enjoyed everything, from planning to filming to editing. I’d have to say that my favorite part was working with actors though. The video wouldn’t have been nearly as good if it weren’t for them, since they pulled through really well. 

 

Things I would do differently next time are making sure there’s consistent lighting, add smoother b-roll, and make better use of sound.

 

The lighting wasn’t all that great in the interview with Junior. The actor playing him had a tight schedule that day so I should’ve learned to manage my time better and filmed the interview while the sun was still out.

 

Some of the b-roll I took was alright, but the rest of it felt too shaky and rushed. Next time I’ll take my time with recording it and keep my arms more steady. I’ll also implement more types of shots instead of pans and tilts all the time.

 

The instrumental I used in the interviews were off beat with the actors’ singing so I had to edit the speed of the audio to match the tempo of the actors. Next time to assure I wouldn’t have to do that, I’d have them sing along to the instrumental at the same time I’m filming to make it easier to edit.
